    Liu Tong Exercise

    $15.00
ntegrating breathing techniques, Liu Tong Exercise offers relaxation as well as building up physical strength and improving muscle tone. — The set of 36 movements or postures is easy to learn. Patients with physical impairment can do it sitting down. It does not require special outfit or equipment. Once you have learned it, you can do it almost anywhere at any time. The benefits are many. Participants report better balance, better sleep, better mood, less stiffness and less pain. In 1996, Liu Tong Exercise was introduced at Pacific Complementary Medicine Center by Bob Hong. Liu Tong Exercise consists of 36 movements, each specifically designed to stimulate a certain section or regulate a certain function of the body. These postures are surprisingly simple, yet they call for a certain precision of form to bring the desired results health-wise. Each is repeated 10 times in a rhythmic motion. Throughout, consistent repetition is basic to success. Age is irrelevant in the practice of Liu Tong. In a class where the age span was 55-92, all the students were able to go through the exercises, and did so with enthusiasm. It is helpful to have a gentle warm-up period, such as the building of chi (or qi) by rubbing the hands together, limbering the shoulders with swimming motions and deep abdominal breathing. Of course, deep breathing is a factor in the entire program, but, in the warm-up, it is done consciously as an exercise unto itself. Learn More
  6. Tai Chi: The Supreme Ultimate exercise for health, sport, & self defense

Tai Chi: The Supreme Ultimate exercise for health, sport, & self defense

    $9.99
This book introduces T'ai-chi as a means to a healthier life, as a sport, and as a means of self-defense. It is a complete step-by-step manual for the beginner. It will enable him, with conscientious practice, to master the sequence of thirty-seven postures that make up the T'ai-chi solo exercise. The directions are clear-cut and easy to follow. More than 275 photographs, together with 122 foot-weighting diagrams, guarantee a ready understanding of the correct procedure. A convenient fold-out illustrates the thirty-seven postures in a continuous sequence. The main emphasis in this introductory manual is on T'ai-chi as a superior way to healthful living. But T'ai-chi, when practiced with a partner, is an enjoyabe sport, and its movements form the basis for an unexcelled system of self-defense. The book therefore gives both of these important aspects of T'ai-chi their due share of attention and shows the student how to progress from exercise to sport to self-defense with the maximum of efficiency. In addition, the authors furnish interesting and informative sidelights on T'ai-chi and its history, including thumbnail sketches of famous masters and, for the first time in English, a translation of the basic T'ai-chi document known as the "T'ai-chi Ch'uan Classics." Bai Sao: Wing Chuns Taproot

    $25.00
BaiSao, a little-known exercise Yip Man used to demonstrate Wing Chun to strangers, becomes a window into Wing Chun theory, tying together ChiSao, Wooden Man, and fighting applications. Revealed is the amazing depth of thinking behind a sparkling, casual, but totally absorbing 10-20 second "elevator speech" demo of the martial art that gave Bruce Lee his start. This unique book is structured around quotations from Wang Kiu, the least-known of Yip Man's original core students. Written to resemble a college course, with "lecture/demo", "reading", and "lab" sections, with about 200 photos, BaiSao introduces Maier's YumCha series, evoking an atmosphere of out-of-class discussions where training becomes illumination, treating Wing Chun as a principle-based art of generating and solving puzzles. Wang's sole American student, Maier focused his Ph.D. work on Wing Chun's "Tactical Cognition", evident in suggestive threads into logistics, task analysis, concept mapping, motion analysis and cognitive science.
